Ojo, Cunningham appointed Tech TVA chairs

The two Tennessee Valley Authority Chairs in Tech's College of Engineering have been filled by Joseph Ojo and Glen Cunningham who will serve for the next three years.
The chairs were created in 1999 through an endowment set up by TVA that supports teaching and research in electrical and mechanical engineering.
"Through our partnership with TVA, we continue to recruit and retain faculty who expand the capabilities of our Center for Energy Systems Research," said Tech College of Engineering Dean David Huddleston.
Ojo, computer and electrical engineering professor, holds the Institute of Electrical Engineers Fellow title and has produced several peer-reviewed journals. He sees this appointment as a validation of his effort and hard work at Tech.
"I came here in 1988," Ojo said. "I had to start from scratch, so this is a good feeling.
"It will give me more opportunities to get involved in what TVA is doing," Ojo said.
Cunningham, a mechanical engineering professor, is a known authority in energy conservation who also holds a designation as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. TVA has funded a number of research projects directed by Cunningham. He also sees this appointment as recognition for all the years of working at Tech
"It's certainly an honor," Cunningham said. "It's always nice to be recognized."
Both men agreed that the access to financial resources awarded to those who hold the TVA Chair positions would be a tremendous help in professional development and acquiring resources for class.
"It would help with the conference travel," Ojo said. "We can also obtain lab supplies."
Cunningham said, "The access to this financial resource is the most tangible benefit [of the appointment].
"I have a great respect for TVA. They keep the lights on."
