College of Business to host Etiquette Dinner

Depending the type of career path you choose, you may or may not have to do an interview over dinner with your potential future employer.
There may be those who are very well prepared for it, but some may need a little more guidance before going into this type of interview. For those who think they need help or would like to improve their interviewing skills, the College of Business Board of Trustees Etiquette Dinner might be helpful.
Students will get the chance to sit down with a member of the Board of Trustees over dinner and conduct an interview to sharpen their interviewing skills as well as their dining etiquette.
"This dinner is mainly about the interview and less about the dinner," said Amy Carpenter of the College of Business Student Success Center. "We will focus mainly on improving your interviewing skills."
Registration is open until March 5, and students may register online at http://www.tntech.edu/scbusiness/etiquettedinner/ or from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., March 4 in the Johnson Hall student lounge. Sandwiches will be available at this time.
Students will have a workshop at 11 a.m., March 16 in Johnson Hall Auditorium, where they will watch a DVD about proper dining etiquette during an interview.
Dinner costs $10, and you can either pay online via the registration form or give it to Carpenter at the workshop.
The Etiquette Dinner is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., March 25 in the RUC Tech Pride Room.
Students will need to present a draft resume to send to the board to be reviewed. Students will receive a seating chart, Board of Trustee biography and other information about who they will be interviewing with before the dinner.
Students will then have a week to plan what to talk about during the interview.
"I want it to be a fun experience. Students shouldn't get too freaked out about it," Carpenter said. "Sometimes students will worry more about which fork to use than focusing on looking at the person."
After dinner, the Board of Trustees will conduct evaluations and give students a review of what they did right and also on what they can improve.
Students will be able to evaluate the Board of Trustees as well.
